Preparing next meeting

Hello friends and partners,

We are almost in the final stages of our Project because it ends at the end of June unfortunately but we still have a lot of things ahead to do and one visit to enjoy.

Next 30^th of April, 6 students: Jorge, Coral, Daniel, Lina, Irene and Antonio and 3 teachers are travelling to Sweden (Solleftea) till the 8^th of May. For the project´s work, students have been working on how Art, Music and Culture can be useful tools to help integration of minorities and immigrants in our societies. Students have prepared a presentation explaining how different ONG´S and institutions work with immigrants using cultural workshops such as drama amateur groups to make us aware of the biggest problems they face such as discrimination, sexual abuse and violence against the weakest. Also, students have been analyzing how culture deals with social issues through different artistic means of expression like cinema, songs, and how globalization this allows us to enjoy so many different cultures near us and shows us how we must be open to new multicultural and multiethnic identities without fears, prejudices or stereotypes.

Media impact

Among the different objectives of our European Project, the dissemination of the activities carried out during and after the transnational visits are a valuable means of sharing knowledge and experiences within our local communities.
The impact of our project in our schools´ daily lives should be more evident and clear in order to foster and facilitate a real change in everyone´s attitude towards the importance of the strategies of integration of migrant students´ in our schools to achieve a reality of real educative and social equality.
Also, we should make an effort in showing to our local communities examples of successful integration projects from other countries and this should be done in regular meetings with those political or NGO institutions which deal with integration projects. Now we have travelled abroad and we have got to know better different integration models in several European countries it is our responsibility to contribute to the improvement of the integration policies in our own schools and communities.

Building Europe

After more than one week of our colleagues’ departure, students and teachers have returned to their monotony of classes, lessons, exams and daily routines.
The week spent in Melilla reminds us that beside the academic objectives to achieve through our different educative systems, there is place to and time to participate in other educative programs, listen to different languages, meet new people and experience cultures ever imagined in our common Europe.

This visit to Melilla has been a bit unusual..why? maybe everyone came expecting sun and warm weather and once here, another cliché about Spain is destroyed…and this is something good about a Comenius project: its ability to destroy clichés about cultures: Spain may be rainy and cold and we loved showing you that !. The week spent together was intense and enriching: we had time to do our work, but we also had time to reflect upon what makes our families so similar and so different at the same time, what makes our schools in our home countries look so unique and alike and what makes us as Europeans feel so curious and comfortable when spending some time together. Every visit in every country stay in our memory because, without even noticing, it builds inside us a feeling of being complementary, necessary to each other and it strengthen the idea of belonging to this immense and full of possibilities “one” country called Europe.

Before their arrival, we have already been busy organizing the matching of students according to several criteria of age, sex, likes and character compatibility. I hope we have succeded and everyone is happy with their partners. Meeting in our city

Time is coming when our partners and friends from our Comenius Project WAYS OF INTEGRATION will be arriving in Melilla really really soon. Next Wednesday 7^th of November, 15 students and 7 teachers from Germany, Sweden and Norway will spend 6 days of adventure, experiences, work and wonder in our city and High School in Melilla.

Also, we have been working in several presentations in groups; there will be time to show your work and share your knowledge from the study of the topic you have been researching. And yes, there will be time for sports activities, meals out, parties and cultural visits..and non-stop speaking English!!!

We are looking forward to welcoming you in our city.
